We’ve all gone through them – those situations that overcome us, making a person feel irritated, vengeful or demoralized, especially when we are hurt or stressed. It’s acceptable, therefore, to have negative emotions sometimes. But, since you can never avoid being angry, sad, guilty, anxious or irritated as long as you are still alive, it only makes sense to know how to handle it.
Simple and Effective – How to Deal with Negative Emotions
Some will listen to calming, soothing and comforting music while others will take a walk. Some others will even go as far as meditating as a holistic way of dealing with the negative emotions. And so, if you are nestled in the middle of negative emotions, these are some simple things you ought to do:
1. Stand in front of the mirror
Look at the person in front of you. Admire how beautiful, unique and intelligent you are and note how sadness is weighing you down. You are too great to drown in negative emotions. So, rise up and be happy, the way you are!
2. Reminiscence the good old time when you had lots of fun
Remember that amusing joke you cracked or the day you danced yourself silly? Well, that’s the very exact medicine you need right now. You can sit and watch your favorite comedian on TV or even head over to YouTube and laugh your heart out with the many humorous clips. My personal favorite is watching funny kids video on youtube.
3. Meditate to bring freshness to your mind
Scientifically, meditation is perfect enough to bring healing to a distorted mood. I know, you probably don’t how to meditate properly. But do it anyway; don’t forget to consult Google or any other helpful friend on how to meditate.
4. Feed your soul with positive stuff!
Read inspiring quotes, listen to soothing music or watch a touching film. Any of these will help since most of the negative emotions are nothing, but mere thoughts which can be reversed. Some of my favorite quotes include:
We are all here for some special reason. Stop being a prisoner of your past. Become the architect of your future.
We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses.
The greatest discovery of all time is that a person can change his future by merely changing his attitude.
5. Avoid toxic people and relationships
Instead, walk with those who would comfort you. Do away with the jittery, those who whine and complain or anyone with a negative view of everything. Mingle with the happy and successful, and let them inspire you with happiness and positivity; after all, laughter is contagious.
6. Count your blessings!
Start counting your blessings, write down the things you are grateful for. It can be your health, your loving family, the smile of your kids, lovely weather, roof over your head, people in your life who care about you and reading this post. Remember when you are grateful you cannot be angry.
